A Dream Too Sad

In the misty dawn,
at the abyss of my dream
limbs shudder,
charred pleas in ebony.
Seedlings lie in state,
interred by ash.
Plundered by flame,
the earth crackles for foolish men
and soft rain begins to fall,
her tears for grandeur lost.

We traveled through a burnt out forest this summer and it left my husband and I in solemn silence. Your poem reminds me of this drive of ours, of the finality that death seems to bring. But the soft tears you have added bring hope with the grief. Life giving water to wash away the ash and let the earth breathe again; to let the sun provide life giving warmth again…

So very special to read your response here. My words have drawn a poetic response from you
      :
Soft tears bring hope to grief
life giving water to wash away ash
and the earth shall breathe again.

This should be the ending to my poem! Brilliant words you’ve written! Thank you for this response. Smiling I am over my first cup of coffee this morning!

    Lillian,
Your perfect words make unpleasant images rise up out of the ashes. This poetic piece is an all to real reminder of humankind’s carelessness-and how tragic the loss of nature is.

So many fires in the news this summer…..
Totally off the poetic subject, so many dogs here in Ptown. Saw a shepherd yesterday and thought of Rocky. How is he doing?

We all really have to be more careful and respectful of our surroundings.
Thank you for asking about Rocky.
With steroids, he’s managing for now. He’s still running, eating…
But as soon as he turns that dreaded corner – we will say our goodbyes.
His cancer is in several organs…:(

        Can’t “like” this.
It sounds like he is enjoying life and for that we’re thankful. Mercifully, we are allowed to respond humanely to quality of life decisions with animals. You’ll know. Till then, as the mantra is in our house, thankful for every day.

Yes, these decisions are always difficult but that’s where the real love comes in 🙂
        Thank you, Lillian.
