some days
it seems a stick figure world
sketched in
lines only
charcoal lines
no curves
no tints of color
no punctuation
negation
no positivity
stuck motionless
mural of ethnocentrism
narcissistic me-ism
artists and poets needed
to add crimson hearts
splashes of love
everywhere

Written for dVerse, the virtual pub for poets around the globe. Today Mish asks us to include the word “sketch” or a form of the word, in our Quadrille (a poem of exactly 44 words sans title).

There’s no doubt this monochromatic world has to go! A little “crimson” splash can go a long way, if we have the heart for it.

Started envisioning a world without colors and emotions – could be quite boring… Thanks for crafting this thought-provoking picture.

I feel it!! Love the way you formatted this to emphasize everything lacking. There is a definitely a dull grey palette that needs our help….if only they listened. I won’t stop trying if you won’t. 😉

Glad you noticed the “no formatting” – no punctuation thing in relationship to the words and meaning. I had fun with this one.

Very inspired writing, Lillian. Like birds in spring, poets are needed also. Great imagery that lends emphasis to the idea.

Thank you so much! I must say, while I agree with education today pushing STEM, I am afraid the humanities and the arts are getting short shrift and they are so humanizing!

I really love this poem, Lillian. You are so right to say that it is artists and poets that bring color and heart to the world. Stick figure is a great description of our world today.

I do try. My daughter accuses me of being a “Pollyanna”. She once said to me, “Mother, every movie can’t be the Sound of Music” and I answered, “Why not?” 🙂

Yes, yes! Where is the colour, where is community in all its diversity, where are the beautiful flaws. Love it.
