“I’m melting, melting. Ohhhhh, what a world, what a world, destroy my beautiful wickedness.” Wicked Witch in the Wizard of Oz
I planned it. Me and Rudy.
It was all fixed.
The machines, the ballots.
All a disaster.
Millions believed me.
They didn’t drink bleach
but they believed I won
because I said so.
This commission.
These videos. These emails.
My people spilling it all.
Gutless.
This witch hunt . . .
closing in . . .
my battery is low
and it’s getting dark.

Laura provides a unique prompt for today’s Poetics at dVerse, the virtual pub for poets around the globe. She provides seven quotations of famous departing words. We must choose one and include it in a “deathbed poem of our imagination.”
The line provided by Laura: “My battery is low and it’s getting dark.” Mars rover ‘Opportunity’
The prompt got me thinking about Donald Trump and the January 6 Commission. May the vast amount of evidence presented be the demise of the Big Lie and expose the danger Donald Trump presents to democracy and the well-being of this country. May his power and cult-like status among otherwise sane people melt away, similar to what happened to the Wicked Witch in the Wizard of Oz.
Agree! Nothing more to add, you said it perfectly. Your allegory is wonderful and hopefully comes to fruition ❤

I love the use of language here, Lillian! The poem as a whole is so very satisfying that leads to hope of the demise of the big lie. Yes, may he be exposed and soon. Exquisite write ❤️❤️

Glad you enjoyed, Sanaa. Just shake my head that people don’t understand that these are all lies. 60 court cases dismissed complaints and said there was no fraud. Hoping the January 6th commission affects some people. And as my niece who is a historian says, at least it is all recorded for history.

Exactly! And after Monday’s hearings, he issued a 20 page treatise STILL claiming he really won the election.

I love this. it is rife with sarcastic humor, and it nails the Pumpkinhead bang on. My political poems are somewhat more harsh, but not more effective than yours.

Lillian, you did that just right. What irritates me is that I keep hearing they can’t charge him with any crimes. Why not???? He needs to be drawn and quartered, not just neutralized.
