A Lunker or Two

Spelunker by day
lady’s man by night.
Stalactites his game,
caves his domain.

Met his match at the local pub.
Spellunker by night,
scrabble her game
words her fame.

Challenged him
after a pint or two.
She won the game
he won her heart.

Written for dVerse, the virtual pub for poets around the globe. Today Sanaa hosts Quadrille Monday and asks us to use the word “spell” somewhere within the body of our poem of exactly 44 words, sans title. Had a little fun with this one.
PS: a spelunker is a person who explores caves. Image from Pixabay.com

I had fun with this one! The very first thing that came to my mind when you said the word “spell” as we talked on Facetime was “spelunker” – have no idea why. I couldn’t get it out of my head so decided to just go with it and as I looked at the word itself, realized if I just added one more “l” it would be spellunker! 🙂

Glad you enjoyed. I think a lot of folks have never heard of spelunking or spelunkers so glad you caught the twist!

We lived for a few years in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. There were lots of caverns and caves in the area.

I knew a spelunker once, but didn’t spell very well, that one. Your poems are playful and also magical. This one was lots of fun.

Do you mean Mammoth Caves…I think in Iowa? We lived many many years in Iowa but never got there. Do know some spelunkers who loved them! 🙂 Always glad to give a memory jog! 🙂

Well….that is some alliteration in your comment! Had to look up the word copacetic — obviously I’m not a spellunker! 🙂 Glad you enjoyed.
