Life’s Palette

Ring me a path round the sun,
rainbow filaments in cloud tulle veil
daffodil slippers, bluebelle gloves
and dew drop rouge.

Kaleidoscope living on a color wheel.
Storm-grey ombrés to brightest white
pale pink to fuscia bold,
my patina glows.

Written for dVerse, the virtual pub for poets where it’s Quadrille Monday (poem of exactly 44 words, not including the title). De is hosting and prompts us with the word “storm.”  Photos of yesterday’s amazing sky in Andover, MA. Artist’s palette is outside a studio in St George, Bermuda.

The garments in your poem are charmingly accurate and so clever! Also, Lillian, those pictures are eye-popping 🙂

Thank you, Jilly! Just getting to the responses here as we are just back from 5 fun days with the grandkids! 🙂 So glad you enjoyed this one and that is really what the sky looked like! We were at our 9 year old grand daughter’s softball game….you know, the kind where the coach pitches to each girl until she hits the ball……and balls plop on the ground with gloves outstretched to catch them….and throws that go way left or way right so the girl can keep running round the bases and every hit is a homerun because of that? It was FUN! And my guess is, this is the way with little boys at this age too. So — everyone stopped for a few moments to ogle at the sky! 🙂

There could be a wonderful poem in that ball game! I love how you tell it:)

This is the only adornment I ever, ever want to wear, ever again:
    “daffodil slippers, bluebelle gloves
    and dew drop rouge.”

    WONDERFUL.

My 9-year-old is addicted to wedding shows. She just cannot stop. But now I want her to imagine and understand the beauty of wearing something like this:

    “daffodil slippers, bluebelle gloves
    and dew drop rouge”

Basically, standing naked in nature. I think that would be a lovely way to get married.

hmmmm careful what you wish for! Don’t let her see this now and save it till she’s 26 and comes to you and says, I know how you can save money on my wedding…!!!! 🙂

When /patina glows/, there is hope for us all; a lovely perspective as the Celtic wheel of life spins itself into a hundred rainbows.

…spinning into a hundred rainbows…..now there’s a poem waiting to happen in and of itself! Thank you, Glenn. I suspect, knowing you, that old age is a wonderful patina for you and your spouse as well. And….forget the “old age” and let’s call it what it is. Rejuvenatement!

I do love the design technique of Ombre — one color fading, blending into another! Would that life be moving from one joy to another in the same way!

What a beautiful palette! Nature reflects colors we can never fully copy, especially clouds. The depth is incredible! I’ve tried to paint some, and all are an incredible palette. Your verse is very descriptive of the beauty there

Thank you! I think that’s why I love water colors so much…..they blend the colors (ombre effect) and it seems to just “swirl” with joy!

It’s wonderful to be drowned in the colors of Nature: ‘daffodil slippers, bluebelle gloves / and dew drop rouge.’…

I liked that rainbow around the sun. Usually what I see are half circles. All the circles on the palette worked with well that rainbow.

The sky was truly amazing to see! Photos are not cropped or doctored in any way and, in reality, don’t do justice to what the naked eye reveled in!

Far more expressive, and more beautiful than saying, “Oh, look! A Sun dog!” (Technical meteorological term.) Well done!
