…in the darkness ye shall find…

Namrah, my mythical creature.
Born of another time, not of humans.
Birthed from energy of Sun and Lightning’s bolt,
dust of Canyon swirled in Wind’s strong breath.
Eyes that see all, informed by Truth.
Wings that enfold to protect, and when unfurled
span the land of many, emboldened to soar.
Gentle in touch and love,
strong in girth and resolve.

Oh Namrah, through darkest nights of fear
I close my eyes to find your soul.
Seek comfort within your folds,
climb to rest upon your back,
face nuzzled in the curve of your spine.
Take me above this temporal place
where words can be bereft of hope.
Let me feel your simple grace and flow
as we seek new heights and soar above this earth.
I shall feel your strength and gain your confidence.
I shall be enabled
and I shall live.

Shared with dVerse for Open Link Night. Somehow, Namrah has become a fixture in my mind. I first wrote of him some time ago for Friday Fictioneers. Is this the equivalent of a young child’s imaginary friend — a shape-shifter that has become more real in old age? It remains a mystery to me…but the name Namrah has become a mystical presence. There is something of the Spirit in this and I suppose each person can substitute their own meaningful name for Namrah. It struck me seems like an echo of the Hindu Rama.

I will have to google “echo of the Hindu Rama.” It is strange that this “name” sticks with me.

This is like an incantation, or maybe mindfulness. Really lovely.

Ah, now that’s interesting. I took some classes in meditation — and did some “internal” chanting and visualizing….I’m wondering if that — back in those recesses of my brain — is where this came from? Glad you enjoyed.

A wonderful poem about your shapeshifter, Lillian. I particularly like the way the words feel when I read aloud the lines:
    ‘Seek comfort within your folds,
climb to rest upon your back,
face nuzzled in the curve of your spine’
    it’s so comforting.

I do imagine this mythical creature as a place of comfort…isn’t there something called a Totem — that each of us has a Totem?

Thank you thank you. I’m glad you enjoyed…so important I think, to “feel” poetry. Right?

If poetry doesn’t cause ‘feelings’ then I feel it fails. I want to moved on wings of imagination that tingles my spine and makes me go… oooooooh.

The whole poem reads as a meditation, the last three lines giving hope and empowerment. Love the name you have given your “childhood friend”. It doesn’t matter where it comes from, only that it is.

How interesting that this name has shown up in your consciousness, Lillian. I did a quick Google of the name to see if there was some other meaning of it and I just found that it is a female Hindu name and it means Tigress. Does Tigress bring up any thoughts for you? I’m so intrigued! I love the idea of a shape-shifting imaginary friend that has evolved well after childhood.

You know…..this name just popped into my head and it’s like an ear-worm that keeps resonating. I never Googled it so that’s interesting to know. A Tigress….don’t think of myself in that way other than I can somehow envision a smile on her lips rather than a roar — and as I’ve said many times, my daughter calls me a pollyanna and I do like to hand out smiles! 🙂

It’s been so interesting to see the different reaction to this piece….When I learned meditation, I was told to begin by closing my eyes and saying inside my head, sah-tah-nah-mah….and just repeating it. I was told it means beginning and end and beginning….not sure if that’s true. But somehow, this name and this huge and gentle flying creature came into my head and I do indeed find it peaceful. Just hard to explain.

I’ve just loved the name that somehow came into my head….and the feeling it gives me, connecting it to this mythical creature that somehow is within me….if that makes sense? And I’m not into quartz, tarot, etc so it’s all the more mysterious to me!

I do love the meditative state of this. There is something quite Narnian of this, like a mythology of your own, or maybe every myth.

Have never read the Tales of Narnia — my children have. Will have to do that. Yes for me, it is like a personal mythology. 🙂

I like what Bodhirose has said: from having read your writing for a while now the image of tigress seems to fit. But then again, it’s a highly personal friend of yours and obviously up to you what you make of it. It could be an Angel even?

So interesting that you said this. A mantra of mine since Oct 14, 2013 has been “angels along the way.” I truly believe this….the mystical….the combination of science, medicine, and angels along the way. 🙂
