In the darkest of nights
ceiling light turned on
pin pricked scrim draped overhead,
we lie down upon our bed
and revel as the stars appear,
even in our quiet room.

dVerse Poetics Tuesday: First time joining this group. The prompt today is to write about stars….during these winter nights before the winter solstice, their light is symbolic to so many.

And such a lovely sight it is ~ Nice to meet you at D’verse Lillian ~

Oh I like this wonderfully brief and full of amazement poem. How wonderful the stars can be anyplace we wish them to be. And I just so smiled at your hot pink/red toenails in the photo in the header. thank you for being with us!

Proving that you don’t need a full knowledge of astronomy nor a telescope nor the whole night sky to be happy and creative… and star-struck!

LOVE your reply! Thank you so much — the scrim idea comes from my drama days, many many moons ago (staying with the astronomy idea!).

I think the stars that we can imagine might be even more powerful for us than the real one.. Glad to see you joined…

It is so nice to be able to reflect upon the stars in the darkness…a reminder that even in darkness one can see the beauty of the stars….

I wish stars would appear in a quiet room! What an image and what a metaphor for imagination, which for me anyway, cuts loose in quiet rooms to paint vivid pictures.

Wow.. reminds me..
of something i forget..
and perhaps something
i don’t want to remember
about a condition with
the Trigeminal
Cranial
Merve
that allows
me to see extremely
painful rainbows in
the darkest
nights
with
eyes
fully closed..
i enjoy black
now and the
occasional
sparkles..
but dancing
with the stars
under eyelids at night
almost made my head
explode.. and that’s history..
P.S.. TG!..:)

To me, there is nothing like looking up into the stars. Sadly, living in the midst of Boston — the city lights obscure them. So I am always grateful when we travel someplace where there is quiet and I can just stand, with head tilted, and enjoy the starry starry night!

We are lucky, we can see the stars really well, here. I also use my telescope sometimes, too. You mentioned the room and ceiling…do you have something that shines stars there? I do, use it every night!

No I don’t….the scrim is just something I imagined. How I would LOVE to have something like that. My grand daughter does have a turtle with star cutouts on its back that we light at night, put on her floor, and it projects stars on the ceiling when we turn off her lights. I should get one for me! 🙂

Exactly! I have the turtle one, too! You should get yourself one! With the stars shining on the ceiling, and my sound machine tuned to ocean waves, I get to sleep easy 🙂
