Building a Reality

People are different.
Color, ethnicity, gender,
religious beliefs, language,
citizenship, culture.

Gather them all in one place,
in concentric circles
facing each other, holding hands.
Each circle defined by a trait.

Note: circles have no beginning or end.
He who joined first disappears.
She who joined last disappears.
All are integral to their circle.

Herein lies a truth of geometric principle.
Concentric circles differ in radii
but have the same center point.
And what is that same center point?

As Maya Angelou famously wrote,
“We are more alike, my friends,
than we are unalike.”
The center point is our humanity.

Sadly however,
truth is not constructed reality
when the builder is a demolitionist.

Amen to that….although it can be redacted, erased, and when alternative realities are repeated long enough, some begin to believe the lie as truth.

Looks like America, if not the world is split in two – ideologies.

I saw a drone shot of The White House and the “ballroom” and how the ballroom dwarfs it. He truly is a modern day Nero. He is pitting us against each other like slaves in the Colosseum and won’t be satisfied until the whole thing is up in flames.

A very thoughtful poem and I like the unique way you expressed a powerful message with a splash of geometry and the sage words of Maya Angelou. Beautifully done.

So very true, Lillian. And there’s no attempt by the current regime to bring people together.

Love your quote by Maya Angelou! Good post to remind ourselves of our common humanity in these divisive times, Lillian. There’s one race…the human race.

The way you use concentric circles as a metaphor for identity is incredibly unique. I love how you remind us that unity is fragile when shaped by those who thrive on division. This is definitely a conversation piece. We’ll done!

The more we try to divide ourselves the more we are the same. It’s a strange paradox. We end up being back to step one

When I first joined the company, everyone seemed to complete tasks faster than I did. I felt like I was failing and worried they might let me go during my probation period. The turning point came when a senior employee said to me, “Look at your hand every finger is a different length. You are different too, and you’ll learn in your own way.” That wisdom stayed with me, and now, 20 years later, I’m still with the same company. now that Building Reality.
