Reality / Truth?

He or she or it peers out from window’s side.
Black obsidian-like pupil
orange incandescent iris.
Half there, half hidden.
All knowing? Fearful? Oblivious?
Seer by unearned reputation
among feathered fowl.

I arrange alphabetical letters.
Create single words, strung-along thoughts
gibberish with mismatched curves.
Leaked ink stains fingers,
dribbles dots on embossed paper
smears black blotches.
Accidental undefined punctuation blobs.

What seers roost among us?
Spew artificial intelligence scenarios.
Indulge everyman, everywoman,
every androgynous human.
Note the ever present “man” in that word.
Want it? Steal it or create it. At the cost of many
for the pleasure of few.

That all seeing obsidian eye?
Taxidermist’s handiwork unfinished.
Half-body only.
Nothing else behind the window.
What you see? Rancid carnage,
stuffed roadkill. Alternative reality.
This is all we get.

This is stunning, Lil! I love the surrealism of this poem and resonate with these lines” “What seers roost among us? Spew artificial intelligence scenarios. Indulge every man, every woman, every androgynous human.” 💙

A deep poem, Lill, that starts with a simple question and unravels into a deep dive into stream of consciousness. I love the use of colour in the opening stanza, and these lines especially:

    ‘Create single words, strung-along thoughts
    gibberish with mismatched curves.
    Leaked ink stains fingers,
    dribbles dots on embossed paper
    smears black blotches.’

Hiding or hunting? What a fine line. Oh, it’s not real. Yes, that’s what we get. Replicas like yard ornaments replacing the real thing. I especially like the stanza describing writing… almost from a primiative point of view.

Oh, that last stanza, Lill! The rancid, and the carnage, and “this is all we get!” Powerful!

Everything in the digital world is suspect, and your poem details the usual suspects.

    A gibberish with mismatched curves.

Sometimes it does seem this way when we write! Well done, Lillian.

The shift from the physical eye to the metaphorical one is brilliant, it feels like a meditation on seeing, creating, and pretending to see. Loved the texture of the language too, it reads like thought unraveling mid-sentence.

Deep, philosophical, political yet poetic – brilliant Lillian! I especially “like””Want it? Steal it or create it. At the cost of manyfor the pleasure of few.”

Thank you so much for hosting, Lillian! I loved your reading, and can see how the eyes lead to the ink leading to “dark” conclusions above. Beautiful!

And please let me know when you get to Barcelona!

I see what you meant, Lill, this morning at OLN. It is rather lowering, but only because your words signify what is only too accurate. Enjoyed so much the OLN Live today! You did a wonderful job hosting. 💖
