Celebrating
eleven bonus years.
This day, back then,
frightening.
Light and love of my life,
your heart stopped
for six interminable minutes.
Doctors, family, friends,
all tethered you to this earth.
I celebrate
every day we have together.
Thankful
to share life with you.

Written for Quadrille Monday at dVerse, the virtual pub for poets around the globe. Today we’re to write a poem of exactly 44 words, sans title, that includes the word “light”.
Eleven years ago this morning, George suffered a six-minute cardiac arrest. Because of what I call angels along the way, he is still with us, cognitively 100% okay, healthy and as fun-loving, kind, and wonderful as ever. I am forever grateful – thankful for every day.

Precious moments.

Oh my, Lillian, you had a frightening experience. My husband had a sinal venal thrombosis (blood clot on the brain) 2 years ago and also nearly died. A very bad time. Hugs.

I remember you writing about this before, Lillian. How fortunate you both were that he survived. A beautiful tribute and a lovely photo!

I remember reading your writing before how miraculous it had been. I believe, in the meantime, George had a strong will not to cross the Styx. He needed to come back to say that you are light and love of his life exactly in the same way as he is to you.

Lillian, This poem is so hauntingly beautiful. Though Roy has not experienced anything quite so dramatic, his life has been on the line several times—enough to give me pause to think of the horror of life without him and to meditate in gratitude for all the life I’ve had with him. Thanks! m Thank you.
