From our Provincetown deck . . .

Star sparkled night sky,
overhead silent scrim.
Ocean’s dark calm
lies before me,
laps shore
to sleep.

Daylight
dawns bright.
Gulls call to light,
scene transposed.
Water sparkle glistens,
sun’s fairy dust upon the waves.

Photo: glistening water from our deck in Provincetown this morning. We are in the beginning of our annual two weeks in this beautiful place. Thankful for every day.

Written for dVerse, the virtual pub for writers across the globe. I’m hosting Tuesday Poetics today, asking people to write a poem somehow related to the sea or the ocean. Any form; any length. Simply on the topic of the ocean/sea.

With such closeness to the sea I can really feel how much it may inspire you into poetry… wonderful

It is truly beautiful here. Pure serenity. I love the sounds as well as the views. On our deck, we look to the left and see the sun rise; we look to the right and see the sun set. Beautiful skies begin and end our day 🙂

What a view, Lill, and what a poem! I love the shape and the sibilant lines:

    ‘Star sparkled night sky,
    overhead silent scrim’.

Thank you, Kim. We truly adore it here….our 25th year spending time with these views. When we look left from the deck, we see the sunrise; when we look right from the deck, we see the sunsets. Beautiful skies bookend our days here 😉

You lucky dog. Enjoy up past your knees! I love the rhythm of sea night into sea day, waxing and ebbing like tides.

Lovely and alive ~ beautifully penned. You used “scrim” perfectly. A favorite word of mine.

Your poetry flows magically as the sea. Hopefully, most of the tourist are gone it is extremely busy there in the summer.

That’s exactly why we come the two weeks after Labor Day. Tourists are at a minimum….no longer “high season” and the weather is glorious!

Is the place where you stay near the strip of land that at low tide allows you to walk out to the little island? I have a poem written while sitting on the deck of the place we rented in Provincetown–actually two poems. But, many years ago. 28 or more. We loved it there.

We are at almost the very end of the East end of town…..It’s about a mile’s walk into town which we do once a day. Used to rent bicycles but as septuagenarians, don’t feel as comfortable doing that anymore. I believe you’re talking about “the breakwater” which is actually a narrow walk way out to Long Point…the walk way is made of huge slabs of stone. It’s at the far West end of town. We’ve walked that many years ago. This is our 25th year staying in Ptown. Before we rejuvenated (never say re-tired) we always came one or two weeks in July – high tourist season and very busy. But still we stayed at the Watermark Inn. Since rejuvenatement in 2013, we’ve come the two weeks after Labor Day — not regular tourist season and much more quiet! And the weather is always divine. It is a very special place. I just posted a new poem today….about waiting for the dawn on our deck here. A very favorite time of day for me and somehow, I always wake up in time for it, without an alarm. Even though I sleep later when we’re at home in Boston! So glad you enjoyed the poem!
