Stormy Night

Clouds meld as sun disappears in night,
form thick starless low-lying scrim.
Thor, maestro of storms, hurls bolt.
Rain streams sidewise,
wind powered slant.

Lonely man on street leans in,
challenged by elements, struggles forward.

She waits impatiently.
Nine o’clock draws near,
time agreed upon, one tryst past.
He plods on,
tears mixed with rain.

Thor’s Opus intensifies.
Relentless time moves moments on.

Clocktower strikes nine times,
signifies his doom.
He stumbles, staggers, stops.
Bereft, done, hopeless.
She’s forever gone.

This could be a modern myth with Thor wanted to prevent him to reach her… methinks Thor want to steal the lady.

The image really suits the poem, Lill, which is so atmospheric. I love the phrase ‘thick starless low-lying scrim’, the rain streaming sidewise with ‘wind powered slant, and that poor lonely man challenged by elements. I also like the inclusion of the time, firstly nine o’clock drawing near’ to emphasise her impatience, and then the clock tower striking nine times to signify his doom.

Thank you so much, Kim. I must admit….ever since Bjorn told us about Bing Create, I’ve really enjoyed using it for illustrations. Much easier than searching the internet forever. Glad you enjoyed the poem….it’s a rainy day here so that’s where my thoughts came in.

Lillian, amazing poem and image to go with your poem. I didn’t realize you are using Bing Create (good for you). Love the use of Thor for the rain metaphor, and also to highlight the storms in our lives – loneliness, helplessness, emptiness.

Wonderful storytelling, in my mind when reading, the story felt a little bit noir as well, and I did quite like that.
