December Walk

Love.
Snow mist
nature kissed.
Evening stroll
through quiet street.
Bells chime afar.
Carolers’ voices carry
through neighborhood.
Candles glimmer, lights shine.
Thoughts turn to memories.
Eyes tear from cold
or yearning.
Family members gone
still cherished,
warm my spirit
this time
of year.

Written for dVerse, the virtual pub for poets around the globe. Today Bjorn asks us to use the word “snow” in our quadrille, a poem of exactly 44 words, sans title. Image created on Bing Create.

Thank you, Adda. Don’t get many of these soft quite walks in snow anymore…now that we spend January and February in San Diego and what with climate change making Boston warmer as well. I do remember walking outside of our country house in the snow…such utter peaceful quiet.

Love those voices singing during the walk. A sentimental walk for sure, remembering those who are not with us anymore.

This always happens to me in the Christmas season…for me it’s a season that brings back so many memories.

I enjoyed taking this December walk with you, Lill. The short lines and punctuation made it feel as if we were walking on snow. I could hear the bells and the carolers, and see the candles. Very Christmassy.

Love the progression of thoughts that lift “nature kissed”, turn to memory, then warm with love. Beautifully constructed, Lill.

So lovely. Yes, this time of year reminds us of those now gone. Hopefully, as a comfort as the years pass.

    Lill,

Yes. Yes. I am walking down Court Ave. in Iowa City. I must call Mom. She will be so pleased. How she worried. How she prayed. And now this. I must call her as soon as I get home. I can see her smile. Minutes. Maybe longer. Then fear. “I’ll keep praying.” Yes, I know. I count on it. Home. Reach for phone. 654…. I stop and slowly set the phone down, randomly wondering who has her number now.

On another subject. You remember Ann and Bill—pastors at Zion for a time? They are here visiting. Surprisingly, Roy has been up for hours of bridge and was able to go with us to our jazz club for their annual Christmas show last night. So, it has been a good time.

    Sending Advent hope! Mary
