On the occasion of a slowly arriving spring . . .

grey skies droop,
shroud skyscrapers
and urban neighborhoods.
Red breasted robin
pecks through dirty pebbled remains
of once tall snow piles.
Crocus greenery marks the shift,
competes for first-sign-of-spring prize.
Less competitive blooms
await winter’s total demise.
Flannel clad, I snooze,
book close by.

Written for dVerse, the virutal pub for poets around the globe. Today, Mish asks us to use the word “shift” or a form of the word within the body of our quadrille, a poem of exactly 44 words sans title.

I love it. Beautiful flower buds waiting to open. Warmth coming the end of the week.

What a perfect painting of Spring’s debut! I could see those “grey skies droop”. I especially like the contrast you make about blooms being competitive . Those crocuses are always so determined!

So evocative of early spring, Lillian. We’re further along here, but even with the brilliant sunshine, there was a cold wind today.

Captured the change here really well leading you through the grubby remains of snow and into the hope Spring brings to life

I too await winter’s total demise. Love seeing the red breasted robins, again. We also have blue jays here.

I remember waiting for February/March snow to melt. I’m happy for spring to be already well underway.

I like your spring “sort of” spring quadrille …. we’re still in flannel out here in Central Oregon too. Hoping your hip is better today.
