I was born to die
pushed out into life
as were you,
screaming curdling wails.
Each night we bid goodbye
slipping off to sleep.
Each day we greet anew,
seek love amidst our trails.
I simply want to clarify,
all one species are we.
Pray tell and think it through.
Reject bigotry, all else that ails.
Hatred twists judgement awry.
Respect provides a healthier view.

Written for dVerse, the virtual pub for poets around the globe. Today Bjorn is hosting and introduces us to a new form, the Bref Double. It consists of three quatrains (stanzas of 4 lines) and an ending couplet. The rhyme scheme is axbc, axbc, axbc, ab BUT the second lines in each of the quatrains do not have any rhyme, hence the x designation. Image from Pixabay.com
I like how you describe how we are all alike…life, death.. and how best we can beat bigotry of others like us – respect. Amen. Love this.

Thank you, Adda! Always wonderful to see you here. How is Iowa doing this fall?

It was cold for several days but temps jumped to 70+ this entire week Beautiful weather and fall colors. We are very dry, but rain expected tomorrow and Saturday but will not fully replace the deficit but will be very welcome.

The ending couplet sums it all up Lillian. Respecting each other is key; so is love.

I wish our voters would reject bigotry. If only we did respect everyone.

Your words rock the prompt and stir the blood. My attempt has a similar message, but of course has rougher edges.

Were are the same species Lil, but we sure as hell don’t act like were harmonious.

Nicely done. Great set-up with a reminder that being born to die is what we all have in common.

Great message, loved the line, “seek love amidst our trails” this reminds me of the quote by Ram Dass “We’re all just walking each other home.” đź’ž
