October’s full moon
shines kindly in darkest skies,
unobliterated by city’s glare.
Gleams its bright spotlight
upon Vermont mountains,
hills and forest trails.
Trees stand tall in fall crisp air,
raucous cacophony of colors
punctuate serene picturesque scenes.
Leaves’ iridescent glorious hues,
crimsons, burnt orange
golden yellows, wine-reds too.
They flaunt their beauty
beneath your steady gaze,
defying winter’s wish
to cause their demise.

I love the image of the colorful trees standing tall, still defying the approaching winter

Words fitting like a glove in the crispy autumn air, but you gave yourself an advantage with the location….Vermont lived up to its reputation in your verse, and was beautifully visual. Very nicely done..

Mind-blowingly good work, Lillian! Sadly, we passed peak this past weekend up here in the northeast corner, but some of the more southern parts of the state are still singing. Thanks for sharing your excellent work!

Lovely Lilian – most memorable “shines kindly in darkest skies,” and all the time I hear Sinatra’s ‘moonlight in Vermont’

Beautiful colors, wonderful wording, captivating presentation of my favorite season Lil. Excellent write my friend. I was driving home this afternoon, and turning into our driveway I was taken by our Katsuras tree. It was a-burst in color — pale buttery yellow to deep rust red, with a bit of purple all mixed with the lingering green. I stopped and rolled down the window to breathe in the sugary, vanilla-like Autumn aroma, that floats in the air as their leaves change color — a favorite sensory experience of mine this season.

Didn’t need a photo to illustrate this lovely poem … my favorite time of the year in the Pacific Northwest.

I kind of had a shiver, then more thinking of Vermont. I lived in New Hampshire for three years, getting it to work, get the bugs out, and training the USAF Airmen to operate and maintain the spy satellite, ours, tracking radars station on top of a small “mountain”. I had a Vespa scooter leftover from El Paso and would ride it all over upper new England.
One more thing, besides being outdone by Colorado, a preponderance of hippies had moved up there.
