Tales told over and over
take hold in one’s memory.
Lies told over and over,
still lies.
Oft heard lies ferment.
Fester in one’s brain,
in one’s psyche.
Foment unrest, distrust.
Rattle rational thought
into rationalization.
Beware the frequent liar,
the pseudo Pied Piper.
Rats follow in legions.
Sewers clog with muck.
Rotten smells waft high,
putrify the air.
Rise up ye voices!
Shout facts! Blow forth truths
from the mountain top.
Topple the house of cards.

Written for Tuesday Poetics at dVerse, the virtual pub for poets around the globe. Today Lisa asks us to consider fermentation. We are to “write a poem that uses any of the definitions, examples, images, or applications of fermentation that inspires” our Muse.

Lies fermenting… The play reading I went to yesterday had exactly that theme… It was called “the antelope party” and I really like it.

Will have to Google it and see if I can find the play!

The pumpkin in the image looks so dangerous! A bit like Trump – same colour anyway. So much truth in your poem, Lill. Especially ‘Beware the frequent liar’.

Yup….I just can’t say the orange one’s name, so disgusted am I by him. But you’ve got it. I was debating different topics for a poem with this prompt, then read some headlines and got disgusted and this came out! It’s like I want to scream it from the mountain top: people, WAKE UP!

Love the alliteration in this Lillian. Stephen Colbert had Maggie Haberman, author of book, “Confidence Man: The Making of Donald T***** and The Breaking of America” on his show last week. Very astute speaker and researcher with so many wise insights into the canker that is our former potus.

From your lips Lil, to the garden of the gods of justice and truth. If I were younger I may be apt to raise more than my voice. Excellent piece my friend.

I like the comparison of festering lies to fermentation and that whole third stanza.

Fermentation always produces gas. Some of it is toxic.
