This star lit night my lovely dear,
we lie entwined, our lips so near.
Our spirits joined in dreams to soar
until you break the spell to snore.
You grunt and groan and sputter snort.
I toss, I turn, till last resort
my patience worn from all that sound,
my need for sleep is so profound,
I trippingly flee our marriage bed
collapse undone, on couch instead.
And when the sky is lit with dawn
to your side, again I’m drawn.
Alarm rings loud, you wake refreshed
our bodies once again enmeshed.
While you leap up to greet the day,
I’m just ready to hit the hay.

This reminds me a bit of Dorothy Parker, very dry and witty. I agree, we need some humor to leaven the dough of tragedies and daily disasters that make up our current bread.

What a wonderful compliment to be compared, even a tiny bit, to Dorothy Parker! THANK YOU!

I hear echoes of Shel Silverstein here; the humor is welcome, but those of us who have a spouse that snores understands your plight and your loving pluck.

I love it! I know what you mean about snoring! It can separate the best of couples!

Clever, Lily, very clever. I like, I don’t think I’ve ever read a poem about snoring? In 2007 I did write an article in my other regular, meme, blog about my dog snoring.
“Oh yes, Adi wasted that hour too, she was still snoring away (in her bed beside our bed) until I woke up.”
And in 2007 I wrote a Polar Bear love poem,
“…I dreamt of you
alone in your cave
That lovely snore
I’d pass now and then …”
