Acrostic for the Times

Believe in
Love.
Actually begin to
Comprehend,
Knowingly.
Live today
Inquiring, searching.
View
Equality as
Something
Meant for, but not given to
All.
Take time
To
Explore white privilege as
Reality. And understand,

ACROSTIC: poem in which the first letter of each line, when read from top to bottom, has meaning.  Sharing with OLN at dVerse, the virtual pub for poets.

TO READ THIS POEM:
1. Read as you would a normal poem, noting the last line ends with a comma,
2. so continue reading by going to the first letter of each line (bolded) and puting these letters together, you have the actual ending of the poem.

I think I have mentioned to you before how much I enjoy acrostic poems. Very well written!

Oh indeed… we have to learn… and understand that privilege for any reason will only make us weaker…

I love acrobatics poems! “Actually begin to comprehend” Now that takes some searching, doesn’t it?

A good reminder for us. There are so many mixed emotions with all that has happened. It has been very difficult to sort through for me!

OK, many of us are slow to hit the trail secondary to the boffo video chat; one of the best Pub times I’ve ever had!! Your Acrostic poem is very topical and powerful. It’s been a while since we did an acrostic for MTB.

I love the way you make this acrostic so powerful and gets so much complex stuff across so well.
    Should go on a t shirt. I hope there will be ways to help change. I thought these lines were so subtle and direct;

A very meaningful acrostic poem Lillian. May we gain empathy and compassion to understand the others.

It begins at home and needs to continue at school, the education, the actual history not bs that enforces the status quo. You did a wonderful job with your acrostic, Lillian.

This is a wonderful subject for an acrostic. We are all complicit in the perpetuation of systemic issues if we don’t learn, empathize, grow, and most importantly, act. Thank you for your act of compassion and affirmation here.

I agree with Glenn, it’s been a while since we write acrostics for the Poets Pub – maybe after the break. I enjoyed this one very much, Lill, especially as it has a twist built into it, as well as being meaningful and powerful. I like the idea of putting it on a t-shirt.

A brilliant challenge in a fantastic form I never have the patience to make work. I truly hope we can learn to have more patience to learn the truth of our own privilege than I have towards acrostics. Thank you for the challange

I really like the way you structured this with the ending looping back to the bold letters read vertically. I know that I have much to learn and love is leading the way forward.
