In these times . . .

dark clouds gather,
humidity thickens.
Thunder mumbles, then roars
lightning rips through skies.

Slip inside for thine own relief
breathe in thine own security.
Or gather outside ‘neath city lights
take hands in solidarity.

Pray together for soothing rains
to ease this land’s parched soul.
Then work together that all may live
without the threat of storms.

Written for dVerse, the virtual pub for poets, combining yesterday’s prompt word “slip” and today’s prompt to write a poem that related to rain.

Ah, when I wrote this prompt I didn’t realise people would need this metaphor. This is strong and beautiful, Lillian. I like the contrast between the gathering storm clouds and the soothing rain – very different experiences.

Thank you, Sarah. I’m afraid the clouds have been gathering for years…..it took a live video to finally incense everyone. And my prayer is that everything happening and the lack of leadership … actually the dangerous actions of those at the top of our government, are frightening. May we all coalesce and act to create a very different world.

This is a heartfelt prayer, Lill, in which I join you. I can’t bear to think of the atrocious behaviour of that man – I can’t even bear to type his name. The dark clouds, humidity and mumbling thunder are ominous, and the situation will rumble on until our prayer is answered. It’s the lightning that is scary.

That’s certainly true in the real world….metaporically here, I hope people step outside their comfort zone and address the systemic problems at hand.

    So well done, Lillian.
The dark clouds that are gathering and gathering.
This gets to me in a big way:
    “Pray together for soothing rains
to ease this land’s parched soul.”

We are in the midst of a storm that has long been brewing… I pray for the healing relief afterwards. Lovely poem, Lillian

Let’s hope this “land’s parched soul” enjoys healing rains and we survive the leadership (or lack thereof) of the last couple of years. Blasting his way to a church and holding up the Bible was spitting in the face of true Christians everywhere.

A beautiful poem and wonderful ending. A pray we all need to pray together.

And apt metaphor we are indeed living in stormy times, and need cleansing rains. I hope they come soon!

I like, “thunder mumbling”. Like a low growl before the storm. It will take many such storms
to ease this land’s parched soul.”
