Sun Driven

Alien-532 was born into the black sky. He witnessed creation of earth sun, man and his mate. His was a world of no light, no death. A crowded dark portion of the cosmos ruled by Alien-1, who did not acknowledge the sun. From birth, Alien-532 was different from his kind. He did not possess endurance, their one supposed trait. He dreamed of light and human touch. And so he fled toward earth and sun. But it was not to be.

Alien-1 caught him and declared his punishment. You shall forever have human form, but no living matter. You shall exist only under your beloved sun. You shall walk behind or in front of every human ever to be born, but never love.

To this day, his shadow shouts on a nightmare scream, even as day exists. Alien-532 is forever darkness, even in the sun.

Written for dVerse where it’s Prosery Monday.
Prosery defined: a work of prose that is 144 words or less, and includes a given line of poetry, exactly as it is written.

How exciting, Lill – sci-fi on a Monday evening is a good start to the week! I feel so sorry for Alien-532. How cruel to turn him into a human shadow! ‘Me and my shadow, strolling down the avenue…’

I do love how you managed to incorporate the line into a sci-fi story. To make the alien into a shadow forever to be seen but never to feel… I hope there is something after forever for Alien-532

What a horrible curse and punishment for daring to want light and human touch! I think I know who Alien-1 is… Very creative use of the prompt, Lillian!

This reminds me of the punishments in Greek and Roman mythologies. It’s interesting how often isolation, and otherness from those that are loved is used as the greatest of all punishments.

Incredibly creative use of the prompt, zeroing in the shadow. ALIEN 532..0h yeah, that should be a Pixar animated Sci Fi film. Kudos for originality and a fetching tale.

Oh, poor Alien.532. I’ll keep an eye out for my shadow today, make sure it gets to dance. A cruel punishment – to see light and people but be unable to touch them.

So clever this and a long way (light years) from the prompt – but right there too.
