Wishing

If I could choose, let us be a kaleidoscope.
Created by One with artistic eye,
teacher of Truth who understands,
together, we all shine best.

You, me, everyone as glass shards.
Infinite hues, shapes and sizes,
knowing we are at our finest
melding into one design.

Sun and moon do shift their paths,
causing solar temperaments to flare.
Tempted to mirror that discord,
reflections may tip, slightly askew.

Then quietly, with kindly understanding,
One gives but a gentle twist.
We realign, nudged ever so slightly,
even more beautiful than before.

None of us misshapen.
No color better than another.
We mirror each other’s good will,
design so glorious to behold.

Would that we could truly be
one magnificent kaleidoscope,
birthed within the cosmos.
Each bit valued,
an intricate part of the whole.

Written for Tuesday Poetics at dVerse, the virtual pub for poets.  Today Mish is hosting and asks us, “Do you ever wish you could just wave a magic wand, eliminate everything that creates havoc, unrest, uncertainty, injustice? I do. Today I am asking you to do the same. Dream with me. . . create and describe a ‘new world’ as you envision it.”

I really love the though of such unity… deep in I think that we would rather agree than to fight, but we have always been trained to compete.

….and sadly, our entire country is so divided at this time….even families have trouble talking about politics and issues. And I fear, civility is lessened so much that it is much easier to spew angry thoughts and think us versus them. A kaleidoscope….that truly is my wish!

Such a beautiful concept, Lillian. I love the part where when things drift, a simple twist gets us all back into alignment.

Well….for me….when asked to think Utopian, the kaleidoscope metaphor immediately came to mind. I have always loved a kaleidoscope…a little shake and the pieces all still blend to a wonderful totality! If only….yes indeed.

Since someone already described this as “brilliant” (which it is) so I will have to add “enlightened”. A very creative analogy. This is wonderful, Lil.

Thank you, Joyce. A kaleidoscope is truly magical I think. One can twist it or shake it and still, the pieces all magically form a beautiful totality. Would that our world could be one 🙂

Snap! We both had kaleidoscopes in our poems, Lill! I love the image of
    …everyone as glass shards.
    Infinite hues, shapes and sizes,
knowing we are at our finest
    melding into one design.’

These lines are Shakespearean in tone:
‘Sun and moon do shift their paths,
    causing solar temperaments to flare.
    Tempted to mirror that discord,
    reflections may tip, slightly askew.’

The whole poem is beautifully written.

Thank you so much, Kim. Snap indeed! I’ll be over to read all these posts later this afternoon. The holiday season has me running errands etc. Hustle and bustle…and then in the evening, I just sit mesmerized by the lit tree and candles and hum with my memories and relax.
And I’m not surprised that you also use a kaleidoscope…so many times we have complemented each other….long long long lineage back cousins? 🙂

I like the mirroring of each others’ good will in the kaleidoscope and this line: “together, we all shine best”

If only somehow the world could be nudged a bit….and everyone everywhere would blend into a beautiful design …. yes. Would’t it be wonderful?

A kaleidoscope spins until everything falls into one view. This is magical, Lillian.
