Wooooshhhh . . .
wooooshhhh . . .
waves sweep in,
rhythmic oceanic refrain.
Sun glittered ripple-path
narrow at shore,
widens to horizon by risen sun.
Solitary floating cormorant
stretches sleek neck,
floats . . . then dives under,
resurfaces yards away.
Provincetown serenity
in the nick of time,
news cycle left behind.
It’s Quadrille Monday at dVerse, the virtual pub for poets. Prompt word for today is “nick”. It must be used within the body of a poem that is exactly 44 words in length, sans title.
Photo from yesterday morning — sitting on the deck enjoying our beloved Provincetown…at the very tip of Cape Cod – just beginning our two week respite here.
Such a beautiful place to recuperate and refresh ones soul!

We have beautfiul fall weather here….low 70s. There is something rejuvenating about living and sitting oceanside.

I’m so calmed by this:
“Sun glittered ripple-path”
And YES, please to “news cycle left behind.”
I love cormorants!

So glad you enjoyed. It is an absolute delight to wake up, make my coffee, and take it out on the deck outside, with the ocean, literally at my feet. Glorious!

Provincetown looks and sounds sublime, Lill. I’ve always loved the ‘rhythmic oceanic refrain’ and I admire the phrase ‘Sun glittered ripple-path’. The solitary cormorant is a great addition to the scene.

Thanks, Kim. We do absolutely love our annual two weeks here! No list of to-dos….just the ability to walk the beach, listen to the waves, sit outdoors in the beautiful 70 degree autumn weather. We used to do July here…when I was working and tied to a university schedule. That was fun too, with children running up and down the beach, families renting the beach houses nearby. But I must admit, being two of the very few people here this time of year….the quiet is divine.

A beautiful poem and message. Your excellent word-smithing has been noted. I’m a Pacific Ocean kind of guy. The Atlantic always feels like it’s on the wrong side of me as I face north.

Hah! Kind of like getting up on the wrong side of the bed? I’ll take any ocean….just absolutely adore living beside it for these two weeks each year.

Amazing how the ocean can erase the negative vibes like the flow of the surf! Just in the nick of time… I am envious! :<)

My best friend was buried 10 days ago in Provincetown, her home-away-from-home for almost 70 years. Thank you for this timely, and all-unknowing, gift.

I am so very sorry for your loss. This is a beautiful beautiful place…and I don’t know her or your beliefs, but this is truly a serene and calming place for one’s transition from this life to the next. She is one with the beautiful sound of the waves, the shore, the spirit of love so very present in Provincetown.

So nice. I can see that one cormorant. I can feel the ease of letting go the world’s cacophony.

Oh yes…..being oceanside in this special place, on the quiet end of town, is the exact opposity of cacophony! 🙂

I love watching the cormorants from the deck…I watch them float, then dive, and try and guess where they will come up next. It is amazing how far they can travel under the water and when they pop up, they literally make me smile! 🙂
