With Apologies to the Farmer in the Dell

I rarely write the prompt first…but this time I must. Bjorn is hosting dVerse and we’re to use onomatopoeia in our poem – words that imitate sounds. Think “pluck” or “splatter.” He really wants us to concentrate on the SOUND of our poem. SO – in that spirit, don’t read my poem below. Sing it to the tune of The Farmer in the Dell – if you remember that from your childhood. Apologies in advance to those who don’t appreciate political satire/humor.

With Apologies to the Farmer in the Dell

The donald in the dell
The donald in the dell
hi-ho, the derry-o
the donald isn’t well.

Splitter, splatter, splat
Pluck it, plaudit, pratt
hi-ho, the derry-o
his lies are tit for tat.

Duplicitous as hell
His double-dealings smell
hi-ho, the derry-o
the donald isn’t well.

The donald gathers rats
The rats eat the cheese
hi-ho, the derry-o
the donald is a sleaze.

Thanks, Bjorn. It is an old childhood favorite song. Right up there with Old MacDonald.

absolutely brilliant! (and oh well, I’m sure all is forgiven for temporarily usurping the lovely nursery rhyme!)

This is so great. I just finished listening to Randy Rainbow’s If You Ever Got Impeached, so political satire singing is on my radar today. “And Splitter, splatter, splat
Pluck it, plaudit, pratt” followed by the cheery hi ho the derry-o is lingering laughter on my lips.

What fun, and what accuracy you manage with your barbs and darts. Saw a photo of Him all dressed up like a South American dictator, and I posted it on FB with the title THE TYRANT OF TRUMPLAND.

Glad you enjoyed, Glenn. We were traveling…so reading and writing and responding now. Settled in to Provincetown for two weeks….looking forward to reading quadrilles tomorrow!

Very well done. He does provide plenty of fodder, and I’m sure the farmer didn’t mind.

I tried and tried to end it with a different word — trying not to offend those who don’t like political satire. But, once I had this word in my head, nothing else did the trick so went with it!

Great use of sound here, Lillian:
    “Splitter, splatter, splat
    Pluck it, plaudit, pratt”

    And of course, so right.

Impossible not to read this with the tune in my head! Very funny. Our words are different, but it must be the same tune.

A reminder of the song and dance. And dell and hell. Not doing much better in the UK at the moment.
