Midnight Lovers

Lips pressed to lips
hips to hips divinely so,
curtains flung wide.

Clouds pressed to moon,
beams flicker upon their bed.
Passion illuminated,
bodies melding move
like strobe light scene.

Muddled love,
pressed thru paroxysm
finally splays itself.
Breathing deeply,
hands clasped,
they sleep.

It’s Quadrille Monday at dVerse, the virtual pub for poets. De is hosting and asks us to include the word “muddle” in our quadrille (poem of exactly 44 words, sans title). From the kitchen.com “Many warm weather cocktails us fresh ingredients such as herbs and fruit, and often muddling is reuired. To muddle means to press the ingredients agains the side of the glass. Muddling helps to release the flavors of the fresh ingredients so they bind with the alcohol.”

Sometimes I really surprise myself when I look at what I’ve written and how the words tumble out!

Wow, Lill! A passionate muddle Quadrille, no doubt about it! I love the way the ‘Lips pressed to lips’ is reflected in ‘Clouds pressed to moon’, and the lines:
    ‘Muddled love,
    pressed thru paroxysm
    finally splays itself’.
Thank you for the explanation of a meaning of muddle that is new to me and which presses through your poem!

Glad you enjoyed, Kim. Muddled drinks can be quite refreshing….Sometimes in the hot summer we have limoncello with sparkling water on ice and muddled mint leaves. Quite refreshing! šŸ™‚

Interesting use of muddling to press against a glass to release the flavor. Nice use of that meaning in the poem.

Thanks, Frank. When I saw the word, the first thing that jumped to mind was puddle….and then I thought or the heat we were having in DC at the time, and the refreshing muddled drink we often have at home on these hot days: limoncello, sparkling water, and muddled mint leaves. šŸ™‚ Hence the form of the word coming out in the poem. voila!

I like that you respond to the first comment, that sometimes you are surprised at what you write. That is true for me, too. Nicely and unexpectedly done.

Very nicely done Lillian…I enjoyed the poem before knowing the special meaning of muddle but that added insight made me appreciate it more.

Oh my goodness, Lil ! This is exceptional. The passion and your words are unleashed in this piece. I love the direction you went with “muddle” and the parallels you created eith bodies pressed together and clouds pressing against the moon. Sorry for my late response but so glad I didn’t miss this wonderful write!
