Written for dVerse, the virtual pub for poets. Today we’re asked to write a Lai: an old form of telling tales – a 9 line poem with an aabaabaab rhyme scheme where the a lines have 5 syllables and the b lines have 2 syllables. I give you a springtime tale of love! Pub opens at 3 PM Boston time. Come on over and imbibe some words!
Lovely!

Oh thank you for the uplift! Everything thing turned gloomy here today so I was hoping for a bit of sunshine (which we have NOT been deprived of). So spoiled am I.

Dancing flora–honeysuckle sunshine–warm smiles–tapping feet–the positive vibes emanate open-armed & light hearted ad infinitum; sigh.

You bring grace and class to the challenge, Lillian. I’m afraid my “take” was the other end of the spectrum. I much enjoyed your poem.

Thank you so very much for your kind words. I really found it challenging to write a poem of substance in this form — so went with no punctuation and took it to the basics of lower case as well.

My days look so much the same – coffee, until I switch to wine. (Sometimes I actually drink water in there, too.) ๐

Naughty flowers! I love it. “Flower me I pray, Utterly risque” is a great line. Mine also took a turn for the bedroom.

Thank you, Nan. I found this abbreviated form (syllable count) very difficult. Ended up taking out all punctuation and that “felt” better. Rhyme Zone also helps a lot — I looked for words that have lots of rhyming words and picked two (an a word and a b word) and then, list of words in hand, wrote. I’m sure that’s backwards — but I also am very challenged by rhyming. I think that’s one of the things I enjoy about dVerse — I’m “pushed” and learn new things — and everyone is so kind and positive. So — many thanks for your words here. I’ll be getting my morning elixir in a minute and then reading. Hope to see yours there! The prompt is open for quite a while.

…especially a spring soiree! ๐ Glad you enjoyed. Yes — the tulips and daffodils appeared in Boston while we were away for a month so I missed them entirely. This had me at least seeing them in my mind’s eye ๐

The rhyme is just wonderful and the poem itself is very beatiful. Very elegantly done.
