Flight

Surrounding reality melts as I seek the comfort of sleep. In that half-aura, lying with eyes closed, weight of quilt on chest, I work to release tense shoulders, facial muscles. Within my mind’s eye, weightless arms rise, outstretched. I float above my body, cares released, and soar into the night.

heron, tense, alert
dives hungry into dark sea
soars with silver fish

Bjรถrn hosts haibun Monday at dVerse, the virtual pub for poets. Photo credit:  Bird Sirin by artist Sergey Solomko. We’re asked today to find artwork that does not illustrate our haibun, rather compliments its meaning. Haibun: short prose, not fiction, followed by haiku. Pub opens at 3 PM Boston time.

I do love how the pieces combines… the flight of the dream, the heron, and that wonderful illustration. I think you managed to span something that was larger than the pieces.

I love how the dreaminess complements the beautiful illustration and your haiku adds a whole new dimension to the entire piece – beautiful! :o)

The idea of “flight” is in all three parts and none of them seems like an illustration of the other. They each suggest something different.

Lillian…this soars….and that illustration! At first I thought it was a female Tengu! Lovely…all three parts.

A strange image, which reminded me of The Firebird, and you capture that mysterious, dream-like state very well in your haibun.

Ah, lovely. The three elements – painting, prose and haiku – work together so well. The haiku is fab.

A perfect pairing. Oh how I love this. Your prose is concise (and very relaxing I might add). Your haiku made me want to dive into a deep sea of sleep. The image is a nice surprise, unique and mysterious.

Wonderful, flight of a dream! I often watch the herons while biking. They dry their wings in the wind while sitting it’s very cool.
