Each night . . .

slipping from here to there,
drifting toward sleep
my hand reaches for yours.

Fearful still,
I will not let you cross alone
this darkening nocturnal bridge.

Fingers interweave. I wait. I listen.
Soft even breaths become my evensong
and I succumb to dreams.

Love those hands, now clasping and interweaving as we grow old together ~ Speaks a great deal of one’s devotion to each other ~

    Thanks for hosting Lillian ~

Thank you, Bjorn. Glad you like the prompt! Should be interesting to see the diversity of responses. Yes — the joy of slipping into sleep together for almost 47 years…I think sometimes we must dream together. Grateful for every day.

Incurable prompt–refreshing, new, & rife with possibilities. Your poem is so sweet & romantic, reminding me of that old quote, “Grow old with me. love, for the best is yet to come.” I adored your photography as well. I administer a photography site on Facebook. Drop by. I’d love for you to join in and share your images. Here’s the link https://www.facebook.com/groups/129946770719368/

Many thanks, Glenn. It is always so great to get your responses — and I am as they say, over the moon when you write a reply like this. 🙂 Yes — almost 47 years now, growing old with my love. And since October 14, 2013, when I almost lost him, we are grateful for every day!
I will definitely drop by to see your photography 🙂 Look forward to it.
