Summer Tanka

Sunflowers
pivot eager brown faces
toward the sun
and turn away at dusk.
Nature’s solar sensors.

A family down the way from us raises sunflowers. Huge field of the large lovely flowers. I go by sometimes just to look and smile. When they start to dry, I will buy a dozen of them to keep out for the birds during the bad months. They bring joy all year long.

They are, in my mind, the most cheerful of all flowers! 🙂
