Familial

Family, famil, familiar
two then three, then four.

Front stoop chalk, campfire tales
I Spy and mountain trails.

Telephone talks on and on
car key nerves to cap and gown.

Roots and wings, goal achieved
two again, relax, lean in.

Hands and hearts entwined
in all the old familiar places.

Rekindle the constant,
you and me and love.

NaPoWriMo Day 2:  write about family.

I love this so much. “Roots and wings” says it all, really. And the rekindling when the kids are gone…ours are 13 and 14, and sometimes my hubby and I just look at each other and whisper, “empty nesssssst” with a secret smile. 😉

Ah….13 and 14….but now there’s cell phones so a different set of circumstances than the one family phone on the wall ringing off the hook and the cord being stretched around the corner and into the teen’s bedroom! 🙂 Yes — we’ve enjoyed all stages and sounds like you are too! 🙂 Very glad you liked this one.

    Happy Sunday, Lillian-
the eternal circle in its earthly shape-a nest formed by the gentle branches of our family trees
your piece here, so gently sums up the meaning and the reason of it all-our lives and perhaps why we live them and why we love the people in them

Oh Ann Marie — how I love to read your responses! 🙂 We’re “in charge” of our 7 and 9 year old grand kids this weekend — swapping homes with our daughter/son-in-law as they have concerts in Boston. Fun and challenging and silly and wonderful! 🙂
