eagle 1

Tree top abandoned
you glide overhead
power and beauty combined
a national treasure.

Outstretched black wings
white head and tail
blend in sleek aeronautic form
sole presence in vast sky.

legs drop in mid-flight
fearsome talons glint in sun
stark contrast to sea serenity.

No hesitation,
double-back or fly around
fast dive, splash
water and body collide.

Plummet turns to majestic rise,
return to nest, the conqueror.

The moment, so fast in time
waters flow unbroken
unaware they’ve lost
a swift inhabitant
to the ruler of the sky.

    Morning Lillian.
Absolutely perfect and majestic words to marry with your terrific images.
    Happy Monday.
Hope this morning finds you feeling a bit better. Remember juice in between coffee 😉
I’ll be slowing down on WP in the am as it’s back to subbing for me. I’m going to try for am responses, but they might turn into pm…for a while:)

I learned through a writing project I worked on over the summer that the eagle was nearly destroyed as a species. DDT thinned their eggs and all were cracking prematurely. Eagle populations went from hundreds of thousands to 1,000’s. Through amazing conservation efforts, this gorgeous raptor has made a spectacular comeback. But we must be ever vigilant.

      Up and about – hurrah!
Yes — so glad conservation folks recognized this treasure’s plight and took steps to correct it. Magnificent – felt my spirits soar as it flew overhead. Even it’s crash into the water was planned, awesome and amazing. Understand the term “eagle eyed” now!

    Hi Lillian. Beautiful description.
I can just close my eyes after reading your words and…..I’m there.
You seem to have this lovely knack of painting a wondrous picture with your words.

Thanks so much for this wonderful compliment, Leslie. All the more appreciated as it comes from someone who can draw and paint intricately detailed wings on a dragon fly! Makes me smile this AM.
