The Visit

The house is quiet again
all things-children put away.

If I close my eyes
I can hear their laughter echo,

see small bodies
clambering on to youth chairs.

Stillness surrounds me
memories sustain me.

Families, and time
move on.

As though there as I read and listen to the memories through the eloquent silence.

Your words, so kind to read…it’s usually a melancholy day after the family departs. Such joy they brought with them! 🙂

I have been thinking a lot about this concept as my kids get another year older and school starts. I’m sad for the day there won’t be toys all over my house.

Am happy this poem “struck a chord” with you. After all, that’s what we hope our words will do .. Somehow find a connection with our readers.
It is an adjustment as our children grow older. And when our children have children, we find ourselves buying toys again for when the grandkids come. The quiet house becomes noisy again and there’s movement all around. It’s the cycle of life and we are so privileged to be a part of it. I always talk about building memories….:)
Nice to chat with you over my morning cup of coffee!

I suspected I’d see a writing piece like this after you had a beautiful visit with your family. How quickly it all does go – the good times, the people, the embraces…
    Lovely.
    am:)
I’m glad you had an enjoyable visit.
