Abracadabra
because I want a magician’s wand to
change what was into what was not and what could be.
Defy divisiveness,
effects of hatred, and speaking of the “us” versus the “other”.
Forge ahead to find new paths.
Gather those who want positive change.
Hand in hand with hope, honesty and just
intentions, may we begin to
just listen. Truly listen
knowing we are all located within the same sea of humanity.
Listen and listen more. Open our ears and hearts.
Make a concerted effort,
not numbing the pain of others into
oblivion.
Prayer is not enough. In the
quest for healing, we must
reflect on what could be and make it so. It may
seem
tenuous
until we verbally and actively
validate the
worth of all God’s people.
Xenophobia is not an option.
You and I, if we’re honest, also have roots in other places.
Zest and good will toward all humanity: may it be our Resolution for 2026.

Written for Meet The Bar night at dVerse, the virtual pub for poets around the globe. We’re asked to become Abecarians: Create a poem of 26 lines where each line begins with a letter of the alphabet and the letters are sequential. I’ve written from A to Z. Not the first letter of the first word in each line. Image from Pixabay.com

This speaks for all of us. Thanks for writing it. Blessings and may we arrive at Peace this year.

Happy New Year, Lill! I have my fingers crossed for 2026, although it hasn’t got off to a promising start. A magician’s wand would come in useful.

a round up of discontents and hopes in your ABC – I disagree though – prayer is more than enough, the rest is just politics

I agree prayer is important. I simply mean that many times action is also needed. “just politics” — sadly, the policies in place allow ICE to accost persons simply because of their color. It’s also true that US citizens are being swept up. Prayer alone, I don’t believe, will end these policies. Significant demonstrations and action at the voting boxes in November are needed to effect change. But again, I truly do believe in the power of prayer…I just think that sometimes it needs to be accompanied by action.

I understand Lillian but one man’s vote is too often felt as another man’s poison in our current democracies whereas we are all One humanity but being ‘played on’ via social media, paid protestation and news networks that filter truth. I worry how much we are being egged on to be divisive with intolerance for another person’s view, to the point of hatred. The claim to higher moral ground often leads to civil war.
