Some days
I wish someone could
lagoon me.
Surround me
with coral reefs,
sand bars.
Create barrier islands
to keep out hatred,
people who lack empathy.
Envelop me
in sea breezes
that waft smiles.
Let a gentle sun
warm and fan
kindness among all.

Written for dVerse, the virtual pub for poets around the globe. Today is Quadrille Monday! Melissa asks us to include the word “lagoon” in our poem of exactly 44 words, sans title. I chose to verbify the word. Photo take in Bermuda in 2018.

Ooh I love this. I’ll join you in the lagooning. Your picture is beautiful, too. Happy to read you.☺️❤️

Thank you, Merril. Bermuda is a beautiful place….we went there for 5 years in a row, the months of January and February. And the water really is this beautiful color!

Never thought of the last stanza as a prayer….but reading it, Amen to that!

Lillian, your Quadrille is a poetic sanctuary, beautifully expressing the yearning for a lagooning embrace. The imagery of coral reefs, sand bars, and barrier islands as shields against negativity is so soothing. Your words create a vivid refuge of kindness and empathy. Lovely piece!

David, thank you so very much. You truly understood what I was getting at here. Somedays I really do feel a need for a sanctuary from the 24/7 news cycle, the negativity. So glad you enjoyed it.

Brilliant. I would not have thought of the lagoon as safety, but of course it is

That would be nice, wouldn’t it? Might get a bit lonely though. I know my lagoon would be pretty exclusive 🙂
