Joined by a solitary heron,
I watch silently
as light begins to streak the sky.
Dawn breaks and simultaneously
this magnificent creature rises,
tucks its spindle legs
and spreads its wings to soar,
assured a new day has begun.

Beautiful shots. They are truly magnificent creatures…especially when they take flight. The other day on a walk through a nearby conservation area, we were crossing a bridge and had the chance to watch one beneath us catch a fish.
