Choices At My Age . . .

. . . my to-do list is
much too mundane to do.
* Laundry
* PT exercises
* Vacuum
* Clean out drawers

So I sit, pen in hand
page patiently waiting to be filled,
inscribed with delectable words.
Words like bubblicious,
fantasia, pomegranate,
or perhaps persimmon.

Images dormant in my mind,
clamor to appear on the page.
Orange sherbet sun,
shapeshifter clouds.
Raucous carousel horses
racing round and round a blurred world.

Shall I take my pen in hand?
Or grasp that vacuum’s wand.
Consider the choice.
Attack cobwebs in corners of the house?
Nope. Not today.
Much more productive
to clear cobwebs from my brain!

    Yay… sounds wonderful to really clear the real cobwebs.
    The pace sounds so different from what I enjoy in my work.

    A colleague retired today and he said he wanted to be like his mother who nowadays was stressed when she had a dentist appointment and a hairdresser in the same week.

      Yes indeed….which is why I call it rejuvenatement (never retirement). Free time to choose what to do….and forget the mundane!

    Lillian, sounded good read aloud. Nice to “see” you at dVerse LIVE today. Thanks for hosting. Hoping to get the bugs worked out of participating. Would like to participate over my computer rather than the phone.

    It was wonderful to hear you read this.
    I often “procrastinate with poetry.” It’s much more fun to clear those cobweb away than to do anything else.🙂

    Thank you for hosting!

    Choices here remind me of my meditations on late work and what there is left to do when time no longer is money. (Not that I ever made that much serving Mammon.) Write a poem, clean the litter box, listen to the wife drone on & try to remember angels are still at work. Amen and ahem.

    I love that photo of you, Lill! I also enjoyed reading your poem, a couple of days late, but I got there in the end. I too have a mundane list, which I managed to tick off before the Open Link Live this afternoon. Great words to write a poem with too, and the raucous carousel horses made an appearance.

      So good to see you at OLN LIVE. Hoping drs find cause of bruising and all is good…feel better soon and in the meantime, be gentle with yourself and as my therapist taught me, expect the best. ❤️
