i.
Acrobat by trade,
she tumbled her way
through the three-ringed circus
everyone else called life.
ii.
She was not a cook,
the Cuisinart soufflé pan
Calphalon pots and
ten-speed blender,
simply signs of her optimistic soul.
iii.
Potter by trade
she worked the wheel.
Hands wet, shaping clay –
wishing her life was as easy to mold.
iv.
He lives his life as a barnacle would,
clinging tenaciously to faith
in an eroding world.
v.
Architect by trade
he drew blueprints for his life.
Meticulous plans.
Until she walked in one sultry night,
right angles upset by curves.
vi.
Waste not, want not.
She’d heard that all her life,
lived by it too.
Christmas wreath upon her head,
ready for the Easter parade.
Written for dVerse, Open Link Night.
Very well-written!

All of these are so colorful. My favorite is the second. I enjoyed your reading at the LIVE session, Lillian.

Hah! I always chuckle when I see young men and women in places like Willaim Sonoma or kitchen shops or departments stores, going around noting their choices for wedding gifts….marking down so many pots and pans and appliances. I always wonder, will they really use them? Or, like so many, will they simply be too busy to cook?

….and so they lived side by side, the potter and the putterer. The characters are beautifully drawn, and the poem delightful,.

Oh I’d love to see you with a Christmas wreath on your head, Helen! Would it have battery operated lights? Clear or those LED neon colors? 🙂

Thank you! So sorry I was so late. I will mark the next LIVE better on my calendar. The problem is, there is so little on my calendar these days because of covid and rejuvenatement (never say retirement) that I forget to look at it!

I was late as well. I came home from my volunteer work early!

I loved every stanza. This was my favorite because I’m a bit of a barnacle myself:

Glad you enjoyed, David. I actually wrote that one when we were on Cape Cod several years ago (we go every year for 2 weeks) – right after we took a dunes tour through the National Sea Shore and saw many of the “shacks” where writers hibernate. 🙂

Apologies for reading and commenting late, but after the live OLN, I was so tired, and we had the electrician in yesterday to sort out the heating – there is still none in the study or dining room! I loved your reading, Lill, and the concept of these little cameos you’ve been collecting. My favourites are number 1 and number 5!

So sorry I was late to live. I had it in my calendar but — there’s so little on my calendar during these Covid days that often I don’t look at it! And yet…..where does the time go when I have nothing pressing? I’m catching up on reading today as well…..will share hosting duties with Sarah tonight so figured I’d just make a day of dVerse!

Thank you, Merril. I think I’ll shock everyone next time at dVerse LIVE and read a non-character poem! 🙂
