Serene Me

Serenity is
all I need,
a verb
 I can make be.
Serenity is bliss.

Serenity is what color?
Not raging red
nor egregious green.
Pastel me serene.

Serenity is far away,
not freedom from the storm.
Serenity is a firefly

flitting out of reach,

on and off, off and on,
reminding me.
Serenity
is a verb
 I can make be.

Today Bjorn is hosting MTB (Meet the Bar) at dVerse, the virtual pub for poets. He prompts us to “use the google autocomplete functionality as a trigger to create lists to trigger poems . . . for instance what happens when I try to google ‘love is.’” In this case, I googled Serenity is… The lines italicized in the poem are some that came up with my query.
Photo is from last year’s visit to our beloved Provincetown: no photoshopping…the sky looked like this! Color me serene.

Just the words ‘serene’ and ‘serenity’ calm me, Lill, and this is a truly calming poem. I especially love the use of colour in:
    ‘Not raging red
    nor egregious green.
    Pastel me serene.’

Yes….I think in the US these few remaining weeks before our election I need to say the serenity prayer often, and the words “serene me” — Let us hope for a CHANGE in the oval office!

I like the word serenity and how you created a definition around it. My favorite lines:
    “Serenity is a firefly
    flitting out of reach,
on and off, off and on,
    reminding me.”

Smiling I am….when I saw that definition in the list, serenity is a firefly, I really stopped to think about it. Took me a bit to connect with it. Glad you liked that part!

How lovely! Grab serenity while you can.

I misread the title initially as “Serenity Me” which I thought was a pretty great request.

Yup. That’s what the title was supposed to be and I mistyped. Wanted to use it as a verb in the title….slip of the fingers on the old keyboard.

I wrote about truth, which can be as fleeting as serenity. Some fine word-smithing here. I, too, calmed down as I reread your words aloud; smile.

I love the feeling of this poem. Very good choice of list word group. I love the serenity of fireflies, and butterflies, and flowers swaying in the wind.

Yes….I’m reminding myself of this every day as our election approaches. Serenity — meditate — calm is good for the soul as is the phrase, “Expect the best.”

So good poem from beginning to the full circle at the end, I mean you tied it neatly returning to the beginning and “Serenity is a verb I can make be.”.
Also, “pastel me serene”, thanks for that smile, almost laughter!
    Thank you for sharing!
