Sarcophagus . . . how has it come to this?

PROMPT FROM TOADS FOR April 30: The final day of National Poetry Month 2020
“A few minutes from now, you will lose all means of communication with humanity.  You will not die, but will no longer be able to interact with the world. Whats the last thing you say?”

Entombed in silence,
solitudinously cocooned
in diaphanous gauze,
but nothing to see.
Nor can I hear.
Senses extraneous
when it is only me.
No exit,
only an aperture to my mind.
And so I choose to hum
not aloud, but in my mind.
Hesitantly, quietly,
internally.
Until my head is screaming
screaming that song.
What the world needs now
is love, sweet love.

But alas.
It is too late.

And shared with dVerse, the virtual put for poets, where it’s OLN Thursday.

Take a moment – the newcaster is on for just a moment…then comes the video at about 26 or 28 seconds in…..it is incredibly uplifting!  I PROMISE you will love it! A wonderful piece to listen to as we end NAPOWRIMO 2020!

Yup, the love we take should be equal to the love we make. We know our solar system is less than a microbe in the vastness of the Cosmos, and yet this speck is all we have, and exiting veil left is a big deal for each of us. Yes, let’s hear it for Love!

I couldn’t wait until morning, Lill! I was too curious. I adored the video and I’m amazed that they put it together so well with everyone in different locations! I love the way your poem begins with silence and builds up to its crescendo so beautifully. When I reached the lines:
‘And so I choose to hum
not aloud, but in my mind’
I found myself humming too! We need love!

Your words sent a chill down my spine.
Yes we do need love and I hope it is not too late…but it possibly is…
(Loved the vid and do love your words also despite the above written)

That’s a wonderful song to sing as the last words.

It is never too late for love, Lillian …. and for hope! I have to believe that.

Lillian, you captured that prompt perfectly. As I was reminded, there are people in reality whose lives end on this terrible note.
    Happy May Day!!!
Did your school classes try to make a Maypole and then try to learn how to do a May dance around it? That part of my life came to mind when I woke up this morning. Way too early to be up.

Have you ever heard the Tom Clay version of “What the World Needs Now is Love”? It had a big effect on me as an adolescent, thinking the Vietnam war might go on long enough for me to get drafted. A little of the wiki entry on it: “Disc jockey Tom Clay was working at radio station KGBS in Los Angeles, California, when he created the single “What the World Needs Now is Love/Abraham, Martin and John”, a social commentary that became a surprise hit record that summer. The song begins with a man asking a young girl to define such words as bigotry, segregation, and hatred (to which the girl says she doesn’t know)…” etc.

    I feel I have attended a mini-concert and
    enjoyed it very much.
