Ancient Lesson

The Ancient One’s book
answered the question
deep within her mind.

universe-1282375_1920You may choose the stars,
shine from the cosmos.
Lighten the canopy of darkness
as do many other souls.
Reflect bright wisdom,
comfort and awe,
to those who remain behind
waiting to grasp the Truth.

Or choose the dawn.
Join that orb of hope, IMG_0622
those rays of warmth.
Become one of many filaments
that spark awareness,
knowledge for those who wait.
The realization,
each day lived is a gift

The choice is yours.
Even in death
there is more than one path
to the everlasting Wonder.

Today I host Open Link Night at dVerse, the virtual pub for poets. This means folks can post one poem of their choosing, with no required prompt, form, or topic. Pub opens at 3 PM Boston time – come join us!

I agree! There are always more choices than we think we have. Lovely work.

I’ve always liked the idea of joining the stars when I pass on….but seeing the dawns at Provincetown, I think I’d also like to become a part of the sun! 🙂

Lillian this sounds so much like a prayer or benediction. It’s giving me the warm fuzzies ❤

Ah, in some ways, it is indeed a benediction. Always happy to hand out warm fuzzies!

The power of choice. I want to “Become one of many filaments
that spark awareness,” Those lines are inspiring. Lovely poem.

Good comparison between the stars and the dawn. My choice would have to be the dawn, but the night sky can be beautiful, too.

Me too, Frank. I like the idea of being part of the Orb of hope — dawn of a new day.

I love the thought of choosing my path after death, Lill, especially the prospect of lightening the canopy of darkness as a star. I also like the reminder that souls comfort those who remain behind, spark their awareness or give them knowledge.

It’s interesting, isn’t it? All the different ways people think of an afterlife? Glad you enjoyed this one, Kim.

Lillian, A pleasant thought that we might have a choice even after death. As to my original post–completely a mistake. So glad you deleted it and let me know what had happened. I have now posted the one that should have been posted. A complete mystery how the other one was posted in its place. Too much activity and too little sleep, I guess. Thanks for being on top of things. Too embarrassing that anyone would have seen it and thought I’d posted an ad for my blog in place of a poem.. Judy

No need to be embarrassed! I was once the host for the Quadrille and had a totally “senior moment” and in my prompt, indicated it was a 40 word poem!!!! Grace graciously caught my error :)….happens to everyone. Glad you enjoyed my post here.

Stunning, Lillian! And yes, choices. . .
I often write about the moon, but mostly I see it in the morning because I’m definitely a morning person, and I always have been. I watch the sun come up.

I had always thought about being part of the stars until I wrote this poem. I’ve taken so many gorgeous photos of sunrises in Provincetown during our annual two weeks on Cape Cod…suddenly I thought about maybe becomeing part of the dawn and the hope it brings of a new day. I actually think I prefer that idea now! Glad you enjoyed the poem!
