Music Returns

Earth warms herself
sun gazes more deeply.
Snow crystals liquify,
trickle downward
through softening hillside,
quicken to rushing rivulets.
Winter stillness disappears.
Stream babbles, meanders,
gains strength through shifting pebbles
as plant life regenerates.
Grasses wave to river’s symphony.
Nature steeped in spring song.

I love the gradually warming of the earth, Lill, with the sun gazing more deeply, and I can hear those snow crystals liquefying, the babbling stream and shifting pebbles. A ray of hope in this cold snap we’re having.

Somewhere this is happening! Certainly not in the US Midwest or Boston!

Great build up to the symphony of the spring. Enjoyed it !

BTW, the USA, I think it is “liquify”. How about in your neck of the woods?

Thank you, Gina. Sadly no grasses waving in Boston right now. Just bare tree branches in Arctic winds😟

You have made the Spring thaw into a pristine event. I can hear symphonics as I read it. Your last line is killer.

Love the idea of Spring steeping! As I read this I thought of all the many duties of nature expressed so well with your lovely mix of verbs. Thanks for the little glimpse of hope for warmer weather. I really needed that today.

Love this symphonic spring. Earth warms herself…I love the steeping spring – wonderful! and my friend, your use of liquefy is correct. Either liquify or liquefy is your choice! ❤

I particularly enjoy the line “gains strength through shifting pebbles” – lovely distillation of the growth of a stream from snow melt to river.

I live in Florida now, and although it gets cold in our neck of the woods, winter does not grow still. It was lovely to remember that kind of winter—or rather, that kind of spring—in your poem.

Glad you enjoyed! We are still in the deep freeze and waiting for Spring to kick up her heels. This poem is from memories of our trip to Norway with their first taste of spring and snow melt and water trickles which would later become not just streams but wonderful waterfalls.
