I have no need for mirrors
or overly affective words.
Aging is reality.
I need not be reminded
of it stealing time
elasticity and
dew-fresh skin.
But you, my love,
wrap me as if in gold,
caress my heart.
You hold my hand
and walk with me,
as if we are young love
now as then.
Wrapping up our dVerse 7th anniversary week, Frank asks us to write a septet. It can be a single 7-line stanza or a poem with two or more 7-line stanzas. Image is one of my favorite Gustav Klimt works, The Kiss (from Wikipedia Commons).
Romantic 🙂

I like how a lover’s caress is like wrapping one in gold. Nice poem!

Sweet and I love that actions speak louder than words after many anniversaries. I imagine that everyday is an affirmation of that love. Cheers!!!

Dear Lil–yes we started with similar introspective muses, looking down at our aging hands and crepey skin–but wow, I like where you ended up. I’d like to think that in one more stanza my spouse would have appeared and brightened the words.

I am absolutely certain she would have! And you nailed it for me….the one thing I HATE about getting this old is creepy skin. I used to look at my mother’s and vow I’d never look like that. But lately, I’ve just said screw it and I wear a sleeveless dress when I go out anyway! 🙂 I’ve earned it 🙂

True love is blind… I can relate to this so well.

hmmmm….rather than blind, perhaps it is able to see the true self…see more deeply within?

Blind as in turn a blind eye or able to see the true self – whichever I’m thankful for it.

What a lovely sentiment – to have it both ways – no longer self-conscious, and still treasured.

What a beautiful and wise poem. I love the agelessness of love in your second verse, it really turns the poem into a great one. Love that painting too.

Lillian! Help! You gave such a thoughtful and important response to my epistemology septet, and in moderating or replying, my fat thumb did something that made it disappear and I can’t get it back. Could you copy and paste and send it again if possible? I think the museums and aspects you mentioned were important avenue to bringing a little reconciliation to our brutal truths. Hate to be a bother, only if you can. Thanks 😊
