Fat slabs of bacon
slapped on the griddle
sizzled and curled.
That frying pan sings its song,
flame burning
grease bubbling
never spatter-free.
Stack ‘em high
with a few tomatoes,
mayo-slathered
between some greens.
Mama says,
Make it healthy,
serve on whole wheat bread.
A second quadrille (poem of exactly 44 words, sans title) for dVerse, the virtual pub for poets. Victoria asks us to use the word “burn” or a form of the word. Thought I’d add a humorous one to the mix today. For a more sensuously burning take, go to my first post Tryst.
Oh god…bacon…literally salivating.

That last line has me howling! It’s like having a diet coke with a double Big Mac! But I agree–bacon: salivating. Yum.

How true with the bread- love this Lillian! As Homer Simpson would say, “ummmm, bacon.”

Absolutely: vegetables and whole grains that sop up the fats! What can be more healthy?

I like this phrase: “never spatter-free” On my diet I’m not allowed wheat whole or partial.

Was just having a conversation on Facebook with a friend about bacon, and it made me hungry. Good thing I went to go get lunch before I read this. 🙂
