What shall I write this early morn,
when night has barely turned to dawn?
Of hope within my soul,
to see the gull soar past
beyond my window’s pale,
toward ocean’s rhythmic shore.
Of wind chimes’ sound,
their echoes from afar.
Harmonious song
kissed aloft by breezes soft.
Drifting from mind to mouth,
‘tis a prayer upon my lips.
Tears but dew upon my cheek,
I whisper joy-stained words
thankful for every day.

Lovely! I really liked “a Harmonious song kissed aloft by breezes soft”. I too am thankful for every day and that I can experience the wonders. ❤

Love how good a morning can be for you… must be lovely to start it with a poem like this. I have not whispered those kind of words in a long time.

I am always up early — time alone in the study, usually with a candle lit. Thinking…and always, with my spouse still asleep in the next room, thankful for a new day with him by my side.

Insomnia plagues me often, so I greet the dawn as well. Your lovely sentiments and message bolster my day, dear lady–for it is gray-grey here, soggy, windblown, closer to the glaciers than the sea–yet as I read your poem I did hear a sea gull, winging up the river from Puget Sound.

Your place of abode, close to the glaciers, sounds beautiful. Sometimes I am reminded there is beauty everywhere…even here in the midst of the city, I especially enjoy the lights of the city twinkling at night…the darkness outside my window in the early morn…sounds of the city awakening.

For me, there is a calming when I awaken early, and can sit in the near dark with a candle lit on my window sill. It’s really almost a meditation that centers me for the day 🙂 Glad you enjoyed this one.

The genuineness in this makes it incredibly uplifting, Lillian. Too often we pay lip-services through joyless chants of spiritual jargons just so to prove our religiosity instead of pursuing faith — an active expectation of hope and change and all that is good to come. In today’s world when entitlement mentality has run rampant, to choose to be thankful for every day is truly a challenge and a test of faith.

Thank you for your very thoughtful comments here, Colin. I begin almost every day in the early morning, sitting in the near dark, many times with a candle lit upon my window sill, or a dimmer light beside me, set quite low. It’s a calming. And knowing my husband is asleep in the room next to this one, that makes me thankful for every day that begins with him beside me. Having almost lost him in 2013….I am truly thankful for every day.
