Blissful dream journey
sparks nightmare.
Ghosts whisper, shimmer,
twist, dance freely.
Clouds balloon, curl.
Breeze skips through leaves.
Storm drizzles, bubbles open,
thunder sounds echo.
Fearful giggle jars grin,
breath flickers.
Dawn spills, melts rose-red.
Peppered blood-shadows
scar green spring grass.
Cue still lull.
Dee hosts dVerse today. We must write a Quadrille (poem of exactly 44 words, sans title) using the word “free.” Quadrille Mondays occur every other week. We need only include the week’s one given word in our poem. Ultimately 44 Quadrille Weeks occur, thus 44 word prompts. Past words this series have included bliss, dream, fear, flicker, pepper, dance, bubble, grin, lull, melt, shimmer, twist, skip, green, breeze, spill, rose, journey, jar, leaves, open, shadow, cloud, spark, cue, breath, scar, curl, whisper, dawn, ghost, giggle, drizzle, still, echo, sound, storm, spring, and balloon. This post includes all 40 words given thus far. Bar opens at 3 PM Boston time. Come join us!

I love how you include all the words. I am not that talented (or organized). I like this Film Noir series of yours so much. #1 it’s real poetry #2 it’s brief #3 it’s creative. There ya go. the three reasons I love this. Plus…it is actually kind of dark and scary.

Thank you, Toni! I keep thinking I’ll be on the final act….I have very few words “of my own” to discard when we get prompt #41….so this may be it. We’ll see. Glad you’re enjoying! 🙂

Since I only did 42 words this time, as Paul pointed out (he has a special badge that he wears that says “44 Sheriff” smiles), you can have those two of mine I did not use.

We’ll see………..only 4 of my own words left to delete and somehow replace with prompts. I keep thinking this may be the final act of the Film Noire series….fun to work with though.

A fearful giggle jars her grin….”jars” is used as a verb here. But….now you have me wondering what a fearful giggle jar would be….filled with ghost stories??? 🙂 Glad you enjoyed.

So glad you enjoyed. Only 4 of “my own words left here” which means only 4 words to delete as the last 4 prompts come in….this may be my final act in the Film Noire Series. I want it to make sense….so when I can’t do that, it’s sayonara for this ghost tale! 🙂

Scrambled a bit with this one….until I realized I could take out “lightning” and substitute “thunder” which really does echo — and put the “spark” into the second line. Fearful this may be my demise though….only 4 of “my own words” remain and when it doesn’t make sense anymore, then we shall move on! 🙂 But glad it worked this time and that you enjoyed! 🙂

Oh my goodness…..I think this series will be done by halloweeen won’t it? I really don’t see how I could possible fit in all 44 words (none of my own) and have it make sense. We’ll see. Maybe if everyone would give “spooky” prompts for the last four words???? Or a verb or connective word?? But that’s not very poetic, right? We’ll see….

I like to think of ‘giggle jars’ as a noun Lilian and something to keep on hand for the sad days – you have to have a sense of freedom to write like this

Now that’s a good take on this…..in a nightmare with ghosts and blood-shadow spattered grass, a giggle jar might be just the thing to wake you up and out of this scene!!! 🙂

Love these! Only four more to go. I gave up on including all the words a while back. I haven’t been here for all of the quadrille prompts. I’d love to go back and see just how many new ideas I could manage.
