I wonder . . .

if star dust is available
to those who seek a glimmer of hope

if lunar paths lead to satin slippered elves
ready to grant a wish

if buttercups picked yield petal tea
when imbibed bloom happiness

if imagination can quell fear
set pen to page with gut wrenched honesty

if simplicity can softly pad its way
through a cacophony of bombastic lunacy

I wonder
how to reach Neverland

Oh Lillian – this is wonderful! I’ve often wondered how to reach Neverland. But when I sit on my back steps and watch the hummingbirds buzzing about, I know I am halfway there.

Smiling I am to read your comment here. Let me ride upon a humming bird’s wings today — whirl about in ecstasy! 😉

I have three feeders out and will have to add two more. I think I hit the hummingbird lottery. I saw what I thought was a hornet breaking free of the trees and bushes at the side of the house and lo and behold, it was a young hummingbird, no bigger than the first digit on my little finger. I realized there were several nests in that area so that Is where I put my first feeder and my second and my third. Now I will have to add two more. What luxury. Over 15 hummers buzzing about and more to follow. What joy. Tiny little miracles they are. I can (and do) watch them for hours. Very soothing and full of joy.

Clever blending of a childlike tone with wise thoughts and musings. (Just for the record, Neverland can be reached right here in Orlando! Watch for Tink – she hangs out around the castle. Ha!)

Peter Pan has always been one of my favorite stories/plays. I saw the original tv show with Mary Martin and boy did I clap to keep Tink alive 🙂 Have also seen the new play Neverland which is an interesting view of JM Barrie, the author of Peter Pan. “I’ll never grow up.” 🙂

Wonderful! Tink is something of a local heroine in these parts. I like the Never Grow Up attitude of life 🙂

So love the voice of the child within. I’ve learned to lament the loss of childhood at large in our culture. I hope that those of us who poem, like you and I, can continue to keep it alive within and invite others to join us.

This one might be possible: “if simplicity can softly pad its way
through a cacophony of bombastic lunacy” It would be nice if buttercups could yield happiness as a tea. I sometimes think peppermint tea does.

I didn’t so much feel the child in this but the adult feeling the loss of a more simple and carefree time in the world. And I feel that all those things, if believed in strongly enough, can surely quell that fear and tamper that lunacy. I felt that this came from a deep place within, Lillian.

Oh you are so on the money here! Yesterday morning I was noodling in my journal and the beginnings of a poem/musing appeared on my page….how children rush for the puddles and stomp with glee……and adults gingerly step round them. At what point in our life did we begin to step gingerly and lose that utter joy of splashing and whoop-de-deeing in puddles???? 🙂 I think the next time it rains, I shall put on my wellies and stomp with glee!

We seem to have done it again, Lillian! We both have stars of some sort in our poems! I love your magical ‘if’ poem, with a wistful sense of lost childhood.

I love the closing–it’s seemingly random, but completely appropriate after haven’t read the stanzas that precede it. I, too, wonder…

Actually, I do believe that each of us has a bit of Neverland in our hearts. We have only to find a puddle and stomp in it for glee, or blow the pods of a dried up dandelion and make a wish, or make a wish on birthday candles, or try on silly hats — and it comes forth! 🙂

You had me at /set pen to page with gut-wrenching honesty/–this describes my process approaching the writing of every poem. There is a touch of limbo here–for your lament at what may be lost midst the topical lunacy & chaos. is also recognition of inner child–extant & obviously cherished. Neverland is closed to those who have lost touch with the child within–which is not you, dear heart. I believe we all, in this poetic community, enter Neverland every time we enter the dVerse Pub, every time we respond to a prompt, every time one of our poems is shared, & every time we go out on the trail to visit each other; all magical, all heartfelt–just saying.

Oh Glenn……I am so glad I waited until this morning (Monday) to read comments here. Yours has just made a wonderful start to my week. And oh yes….this is how I think of the dVerse Pub. Since you’ve written it here…….I would like to copy it and share it with the dVerse bartenders…I think you’ve put into words what this place means to me and many. Thank you thank you. And you know what? That inner child is so important to let out every once in a while. As I’ve said to others….the next time it rains in Boston I plan to put on my wellies and go outside to find a nice big puddle…and then just stomp with glee! 🙂 That will bring the Neverland in me out a bit! 🙂

I know one place it can exist…..next time it rains, don your wellies/boots/old shoes and go outside. Find a puddle and just stomp in it with glee! I shall be doing that next rain here in Boston. And that shall release all the inner child in me and I shall enjoy the splashing and utter joy! 🙂

Always so good to see you here, Katie! Oh yes….I do believe Neverland exists within our hearts….we have only to uncover it…like when it rains, putting on our boots and going out to stomp in the puddle with great glee…..rather than gingerly stepping around them. I shall do that the next time it rains and Neverland shall sing within my heart! 🙂

The crafting of each line and the open ended nature of each stanza made this a sort of luxurious experience to read. I found myself reading each stanza twice before moving on, taking my time with the puzzle of it and not wanting it to end.
