Moonbeam

Introduction first: this poem is written by my 10 year old granddaughter, Stella Hallberg. She and I share monthly prompts. For May, I sent her the word “percolate.” There are no edits here and no one helped her. This is what she wrote.

Love
Like a moonbeam
Starting just as dark
Both percolate into light
Both something more than life
Bright
Beautiful
Precious
A gem in a sea of rocks
A light in an ocean of shadows

    The poetry is in her- She’s got it! What beautifully insightful analogy and crystal clear imagery. She also really used percolate in a way that shows her understanding of the word. Well done!

    Nurturing the poet! Children have the ability to be wonderful poet’s because they have fewer filters and fears than many adults. May she always be blessed with words to flow from her heart to her pen. Thanks for sharing 🙂

    Oh my!!! She certainly is taking after you Lill. I love the entire poem, but the last line is awesome.. certainly love and a moonbeam are “a light in an ocean of shadows” Wow! So beautifully done. Kudos!

        My prompt to her for July is a quadrille with the word “whisper.” Will be interesting to see what she does. On her visit last week, we shared our notebooks with each other: words, ideas and partial poems. I talked with her about how sometimes a piece you don’t use or an idea you don’t use, contains “a poem within a poem,” … hence Race Horse which I recently posted😊.
