Farm girl drama queen
with big time dreams,
snared the son of a preacher
with her homey flirtin’ ways.
Singin’ the fairy tale blues.

Son of a preacher
turned big time doc,
maneuvered through the courtin’ tiffs
into a sometimes wedded bliss.

Mansion mama, party queen
livin’ the wonder life,
raisin’ two perfect girls
puttin’ on the ritz.

Spotlight stealer, cravin’ fame
ignored her co-star’s role,
didn’t see him exit left
singin’ the fairy tale blues.

Always the diva drama queen
she stabbed him in their final scene.
She’s doin’ five to ten now,
singin’ the fairy tale blues.

    i like your surprise ending and what a life she led getting here to that end – love the use of repetition of fairy tale blues like a new catch phrase in my head

    I like how your poem marches, how expectations are sometimes met, but in this case only for one person, She seems the one with all the dreams and power, he seems just a character in her fantasies. As such…of course, he would leave, and she would expectantly explode. Though Ironically,
    I enjoyed it, and have known a few just like her in my time. Thank you for sharing.

    I echo the sing-song part, but a dark, dark and truly ironic ending. I also reckon I cotton to the slightly southern, slightly county patois. It works!
