When
life
gets
all
staccato,
insert
a
rest
and slow yourself down.
Don’t beat yourself up.
Think key largo
and slip into three-quarter time.
Note:
I’ll dance with you
to any music, any time,
any place, any where.
Except the polka.
I hate dots and oompah bands.
Victoria is hosting dVerse today, a virtual pub for poets. She asks us to write a poem that incorporates music. Bar opens at 3 PM Boston time….stop by and add your own musical voice, scat with us, or just enjoy some of the other folks jammin’. For those non-musicians among my readers, opus, staccato, rest, beat, key (as in key signature), largo (as in slowly), 3/4 time, note and of course polka all refer to music. As alive as you are, how can you hate a good polka? I like this play with words you did. Fun poem!

Went to the light side again. 🙂 I do love to dance….but from the time I was young, I did not like the polka as I thought I was just being flung around the floor and totally out of control. Alas….the polka, at least the way I experienced it, was too wild for me!

Actually, a polka would be great right now under these oppressive largo skies. Love how you incorporate so much into this, Lillian.

Well, I’d take a tap dance or high kicking like the Rockets to brighten up the mood 🙂 Gald you enjoyed.

My dancing days are trey calando, but I love the feel, the unabashed joy communicated by your piece. I went with the city’s symphony, as it, & I, awaken. I’m not a musician, but I love the Italian musical terms, music in themselves.

As my husband and I used to say at our childrens’ music competitions and concerts…when asked if they got their talent from us….”well, no. We play the comb with wax paper and the spoons!” 🙂
Will be dancing over to read in the early AM. Look forward to your symphony!

I love that opening, Lillian, and the way the rhythm is reflected in the form! I’m not keen on dots or oompah bands either!.

Staccato words….yep. Poetry so often is words in music….or music in words? 🙂

I’d like to think “key largo”. I was raised in South Miami, but haven’t seen it in 40 years. Great read

Yep….play on words….the warm and sultry place of Key Largo….and the idea of the key signature and the slow rhythm of largo in music. 🙂 Glad you enjoyed!

A delightful composition which moves through a series of rhythmical phrases and trips the light fandango. Bravo.
