There comes a point in time
when life doesn’t migrate,
it meanders.
Meanwhile . . .
morning alarms come alive
coffee is gulped, black and strong.
Commuter rails and trails
fill with busy bees,
drones and queens with tasks ahead.
Life moves on a conveyor belt,
bar codes intact . . .
while I roll over,
wiggle my toes
and let the day unfold.

A great photograph. Lovely poem.

Ah, many thanks, Kay. I am now in our beloved Provincetown — Cape Cod – for two glorious weeks. She is quite the poetic muse. Plenty of beach to wiggle my toes. The “hat” and “feet” photos are from here a few years ago 🙂

We always rented bikes for our two weeks here in Provincetown — sadly for both of us now, our balance isn’t quite what it used to be so we do lots and lots of walking. But – I so agree – feeling wind in your face and your legs pumping — great great way to see the sites and exercise at the same time!

Have been way “under the weather” the last few days — fever and sore throat — so just now getting to reading for OLN and reading comments too. Yours here made me laugh, Brian! 🙂 Good way to start the day! 🙂

Somehow the whole tone of the middle stanza was more frantic! I found myself reading it very quickly in my mind, whereas the other two stanzas just floated along peacefully.

Exactly. That middle stanza used to be my life — lots and lots to do and then more to do. A never ending list of must-dos. Now, in my rejuvenatement period, never say retirement, I can do or not do. I do have lists — but — they’re not written in stone anymore and very few items have deadlines. More time to wiggle my toes! And — yep — am now in Provincetown for our annual two weeks beisde the glorious ocean. Hat and feet photos are from here a few years ago. Sadly, was really “under the weather” for the last few days so just now getting back to writing, replying and reading OLN. Glad you enoyed this one!

Well after 3 days of fever, sore throat etc….I am now coming “out from under” — and in one of my most favorite places in the world. Plenty of room to wiggle my toes here — in fact, the “hat” and “feet” photos on my blog are from here. It’s a good place to sniffle and recover! 🙂 Will be fun to host Tuesday’s Poetics from here 🙂

Ah your day sounds perfect. The frantic life is more like my own unfortunately.

Well….trust me….that second stanza was my life for many many years. And truth be told, it was very rewarding in many ways. But it is nice to be in my rejuvenatement (never say retirement) period now! 🙂

Beautiful sunrise…nice not to have to run the rat race, instead just feel the day blossom slowly.

AH yes…..back in the day when I was living that second stanza, vacations were the rejuvenatement period! Now, in rejuvenatement (never say retirement) — I am thankful for every day. And although I do have a list of to dos, there are very few with deadlines and it’s true, it is wonderful to let each day unfold.

Oh yes, Lillian, it’s a great feeling. Free to start our day in whatever way we want and to continue in the same way if we so desire! Love this poem – it says it all. And the image is a bonus!

So glad you enjoyed! 🙂 Photo is from Provincetown on Cape Cod — last year. We arrived here yesterday for our annual two week visit. Our rental has a marvelous deck, right on the ocean….and high tide sounds glorious! 🙂 Have been ill last few days — so just now getting to reply and to read OLN. Provincetown is a wonderful place to recover though! 🙂

I’m so sorry that you have been ill, Lillian, while you are on a holiday, too. At least you’re recuperating in lovely surroundings. I wish you a speedy recovery and enjoy the rest of your time on cape Cod!

Yep! And Provincetown, the very tip of Cape Cod in MA, is the perfect place to do it! We arrived here yesterday for our annual two weeks in paradise. Even as I write, the high tide is roaring up the shore and I sit on our deck feeling the ocean breeze! LOVELY indeed!

I’m just a control freak, even for my retirement. I planned it for 5 years, setting up a series of fun projects for ME time (travel, movies, collecting, photography, the internet (blog, FB+twitter+ digit photo album), writing & performing) that I will not complete before I’m 100–so a halcyon day as you describe it never unfolds. I work 12 hour days now, smiling all the way.

Ah Glenn……….that second stanza was my life for many many years and I must say, it brought many rewards. I do still have to do lists and projects and things I’d like to do and see….but very few have deadlines anymore. I do enjoy the ability to lounge! 🙂 What’s that saying? Different strokes for different folks? I can see you enjoying your busy life, within your wonderful writing. But…at the same time, it’s your busy life, decided by you. I think that’s what I savor most about rejuvenatement (never say retirement) — is that in most instances, we get to choose 🙂

Some of us have little furry creatures that kind of get in the way of that toe wiggling. But, all the same, I relish my morning quiet time, sharing a cuppa with the husband, getting my head screwed on straight (sort of) and going about the business of being. Love this, Lillian.

Ah yes…..the moments of quiet in the AM to get our head screwed on straight — well said, my friend. Those are the moments that enable us to live and love, right? We arrived yesterday in our beloved Provincetown (very tip of Cape Cod) for our annual two weeks….and I promptly went to bed at 2 PM and didn’t get up till 7 AM this morning — fever etc. UGH. But, this ocean air and this beautiful place is a great recovery system on its own. The glorious high tide is roaring in as I write. And now, finally, I shall get over to OLN for some reading. Looking forward to doing Tuesday’s poetics from our deck! 🙂
